Products & Services

Web, App and Digital

We cater for all requirements in web and digital communication from a small static web presence to a large dynamic ecommerce website. Website design and development includes: bespoke content managed sites in WordPress, WordPress Themes, website hosting and domains, ecommerce, HTML newsletters and online brochures.

Planning is an essential process for creating a successful digital presence. Website design (how the site looks) , content (what’s in the website) , functionality (how the site interacts with the owner and user) and search engine optimization (how the site will be found by search engines) are the key elements to plan.

CMS or content managed systems are a popular option for many clients. We use WordPress for our content management as it offers clients a non-techie, user-friendly system for updating their site. Its functionality is enhanced by the thousands of plugins that are available for ecommerce, social media, SEO, mobile sites and much more.

We offer two price brackets for our WordPress sites: a bespoke website or a Theme. WordPress Themes are prebuilt templates that offer a WordPress website to clients with a limited budget.

Print Design

We offer clients a complete print service by providing graphic design, advertising management/solicitation and print procurement.

Creative design is our strength and our style can be adapted depending on the client and target market. See our print portfolio for a diverse range of designs in various formats: stationery, poster, calendar, booklet, jigsaw, leaflet, brochure, exhibition stand, DVD, T-shirt and even a cycling kit.

In addition to graphic design and print, we have experience in advertising management and solicitation. We have worked with Eden District Council on their Holiday Guide and Cumbria Tourism on both their Attractions and Food & Drink guides. These projects involved mailing, following-up advertisers and proofing adverts. Over the years we’ve refined our processes, which now include online booking forms as well as an online proofing system.

The final process is print procurement. Due to the range of print formats, we work with a select group of suppliers. Some of which, we have a working relationship that spans two decades.

Brand & Identity

Our experience of brand & identity projects ranges from creating a simple identity to naming, conceptualising and developing a brand.

An identity is the visual device used to represent the company. The identity is then paired with style guidelines and used as a framework to ensure the brand promotion is cohesive and consistent. Some of the visual devices that leverage the brand elements and style guidelines are: stationery, marketing collateral, packaging, signage and websites.

A brand is the idea or image of a specific product or service that consumers connect with. Branding is when that idea or image is marketed so that it is recognizable by more and more people and to differentiate it from other similar companies.

Designworks has produced leaflets, posters and other materials to help promote the Electric Bicycle Network. I have found them a pleasure to work with – patient, creative and dependable. They have also overhauled our website – we were really impressed with the effort and skill they put in to devising solutions to some really demanding functionality, as well as giving it a wonderfully fresh look and feel.

From Our Website

Our experience spans all sectors and includes: branding a Local Enterprise Partnership, developing a website for Pizza Hut, marketing a cycle club, creating an identity for a District Council, writing a branding strategy for a long distance cycle route, illustrating flora and fauna for a Landscape Partnership Scheme, producing Friends of the Lake District's magazine, building a property website for a estate agent, managing the production of Green Travel Guide and building an ecommerce website for a fabric designer.

A logo or logotype represents your company or organization. It can be typographic, a symbol or a combination of both. Logos vary, sometimes the graphic symbol and typographic word mark are separate with others, there is not a clear separation of logo symbol from typography. Once a logo has been designed it gets applied to many different applications. This is called brand identity and includes: stationery, leaflets, signage, website and all the marketing collateral associated with the company. The elements that make up a full brand identity are fonts, colours, imagery, and even the tone of the writing.

How we work and our processes vary depending on the type of project. For example the approach to branding is different to how we would deliver an ecommerce website. Therefore, we've kept the method, listed below, as simple as possible. When you first contact us we'll spend time to get to know what you're looking for and then advise you on the best way forward. We understand that clients want to be careful about what they spend and whether their outlay is a good return on investment. After an initial meeting or conversation, we'll provide an estimate and, unless the brief changes, we'll charge you no more than we've estimated.

The skill in successful advertising is to plan, develop and create the perfect message. The message then needs to be delivered to the target audience. The number of options available for successful 'message delivery' is vast and includes TV, radio, print and online. Whatever the marketing objectives behind the advertising, we can advise clients on the best form of promotion and the cost involved with different types of advertising. When it comes to the production, our team of creatives are able to take your advert from concept all the way through to the finished design.

Photography is one of the most important parts of creating a compelling and eye catching marketing campaign, branding execution or website. Photography can create an effect and set a tone for the campaign. Quality photography is essential, much of the hard work that must go into the design can be rendered nearly meaningless by poor photography. As well as our own photographic service we also work with professional photographers. A professional photographer knows how to compose images and they have the final composition in mind when capturing the image.

Marketing is the process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements. Marketing includes all of the activities necessary to move a product or service from the producer to the consumer. As part of our marketing process, we incorporate the four Ps (product, price, promotion, place) through a series of questions designed to help define each brand's marketing mix. Our marketing expertise encompasses both digital and print. Work includes a remarketing and email campaign for ETSOS a technology firm, a direct marketing mailer for SLACC an environmental charity and advertising for Mitchells an auctioneer's.
